In one of my systems, I run a SCSI Harddrive and a huge IDE drive. I boot from the SCSI!
Once after having installed the IDE drive, I ran lilo and it would not work any more.
It was complaining that /dev/sda was not the first harddrive in my system, although it was.
So what I had to do was to unplug the IDE harddrive and restart the machine, then
lilo would work perfectly and I could shutdown again, to install the IDE harddrive again. Everything
worked perfectly after that.
