I just updated to the kernel 2.4.7 which is supported by SuSE. I compile my kernels myself, so I took the old .config file and started the make oldconfig procedure. What I had to find is that ReiserFS is not supported any more in the kernel. I found on SuSE's webpage that they only support it as a module any more.
System.map
When you compiled the kernel, make sure the System.map file is going into the root directory!
Bootdisk
To make a bootdisk, do the following:
dd if=<where your kernel is> of=/dev/fdo bs=18k
rdev /dev/fd0 Your_root_partition
rdev -R /dev/fd0 1
