Open Vulnerability Assessment Language (OVAL) is the common language for security experts to discuss and agree upon technical details about how to check for the presence of a vulnerability on a computer system. The vulnerabilities are identified by OVAL queries, which perform the checks.
Currently we (I say we, because I am a member of the board) are working on getting the description languague converted to XML to then get vendors to implement the descriptions in vulnerability reports and such.
